Roy Earl Bailey was born on December 29, 1930, to Lena Belle Hamby Bailey and Nile Lovelace Bailey of   Westmoreland, California. He lived in California for his first few years and then he and his family returned to Texas to live in Big Spring. He spoke often and fondly of the dairy farm his family owned and operated while he was a young boy. He learned to work hard at a young age. He graduated from Big Spring High School in 1948 and took a job working for Western Glass & Mirror while taking college courses at Howard County Junior College. In 1952, he was drafted into the Army and went through basic training at Ft. Bliss in El Paso, Texas.  On July 4, 1952, he married the love of his life, Sallie Anne Hogue. They spent the next 68 years of their lives together until she was called home to be with the Lord in 2020. During the first two years of their marriage, Roy was enlisted in the Army, serving in the Korean Conflict. One of the jobs Corporal Bailey held while serving was as a Fire Directional Control Computer in the Headquarters Battery of the 1st Calvary's Division of the 77th Field Artillery Battalion. He wore the UN and Korean service medals and was awarded the bronze star for his meritorious achievement in accuracy in artillery.
After serving our great country, Roy returned to Big Spring and continued to work in the glass business. Through the years, he worked for glass companies in Midland, Texas as well. In 1963, Roy and Sallie purchased Snyder Glass & Mirror. They owned and operated it and Bailey Snyder Glass & Mirror until 2017, when Roy retired.
Roy loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, with his whole heart. He and Sallie were members of Colonial Hill Baptist Church for many years. He loved music. He loved to sing hymns, cowboy songs, and military songs. He learned to play the harmonica while in the army and he enjoyed making music with his harmonica for the rest of his life. Roy and Sallie were involved with the youth group at church when their children were teenagers, and they went on several youth mission trips. They also enjoyed going to football games and band competitions with their five children.

Roy was preceded in death by his wife, Sallie Hogue Bailey, his son, Glen Bailey, his parents Nile and Lena Hamby Bailey, his brothers Euell Bailey and Keith Bailey, a sister, Mona Bailey Blackwell, and granddaughter, Rebekah Olson Leverton.
He is survived by his sisters Mary Bailey Shanks and Nila Bailey Allen, his children, Nancy Bailey Olson, Sue Bailey Bedingfield and her husband, Gene, Trissa Bailey Green and her husband, Steve, Craig Bailey and his wife, Misty.
