Shirley Ann Groves

Shirley Ann Groves, 71, of Hermleigh and Midland, Texas passed away peacefully on April 18, 2023.

A Graveside service will be held at 2 PM on Friday, April 21, 2023 at Hermleigh Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Bell Cypert Seale Funeral Home.

Shirley was born October 23, 1951, to Helmuth and Hulda Wisian in San Marcos, Texas. She graduated from San Marcos High School in 1970. Later in 1970, she met David “Buster” Groves, and they were married June 4, 1971. She knew from the moment she met him that she was going to marry him. They had three children: Cody Groves, Summer Sherrod, and Sarah Veatch.

Shirley is preceded in death by her parents: Helmuth and Hulda Wisian.

She is survived by her husband, Buster Groves, her children, Cody Groves, Summer Sherrod and spouse, and Sarah Veatch and spouse; Her brother: Bobby Wisian and spouse; Grandchildren (which were her world): Kyler Groves, Caleb Groves, Braylee Sherrod and Step Grandchildren: Aidan Sherrod, Addison Sherrod, and Sydney Veatch.

Shirley was a light to every life she touched. She was selfless, full of life, spunky, honest, and everything a good wife and mother should be. She LOVED the Dallas Cowboys, traveling, dancing, and being creative. She loved her family without measure. She was fiercely patriotic, and cried every time the national anthem played. She embodied kindness and love.

Shirley never met a stranger and had a knack for making friends wherever she went. Shirley vivaciously took on her role as Nana, and excelled at it. She was tough as nails, ceaselessly funny, unfailingly caring, and full of love. She never failed to have Buster’s back, and traveled with him, supported him, and made a life with him, raising kids and living life together.

The family asks that a memorial contribution be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or the Wounded Warrior Project, both causes Shirley was active with.
