Wyvonne Hicks

January 17, 1931 — November 13, 2018

Maggie Wyvonne Hicks, 87, of Snyder, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2018, at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock.

Wyvonne was born January 17, 1931, to Claud and Flora Wilson in Dermott, Texas. She was the youngest of five, with four older brothers: T.L., Claud Jr. (known as JR), Jack and Frank.  Bunny was a long time member of Trinity United Methodist Church.

By many, she was lovingly called “Bunny” but few knew that the nickname was given to her at a young age by her brothers because they always thought she bounced around and ran as fast as a bunny rabbit.

Wyvonne met the love of her life, Robert Hicks, in 1949, and married him three weeks later. The couple settled in Snyder in 1952, where they raised their three children, Linda, Gary and Robby.

Bunny loved being outdoors, whether she was tending to her garden, camping in the mountains or by the lake, enjoying her bluebonnets in the front yard or watching her grandchildren play whatever sport they were involved with at the time. She especially loved baseball, and would occasionally sneak back into the living room to watch a late-night Texas Rangers game after Bob fell asleep.

Mema had an amazing sense of humor and could make her grandchildren laugh themselves to sleep with her quick-witted and often hilarious bedtime stories. She will be remembered always for her warm smile, kind heart, unrestrained laughter and unconditional love for her family.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, and one son, Gary Allen Hicks.

She will be dearly missed by her husband of almost 70 years, Robert Hicks; daughter, Linda Winter and husband Ted of Midland; and son, Robby Hicks and wife Nancy of Nashville, TN. She leaves behind seven grandchildren: Kevin Winter and Melissa of Prosper; Chris Winter and Tammy of Argyle; David Hicks and Heather of Ely, MN; Mendy Winter of Midland; Justin Hicks and Mallory and Jenna Vongnarath and Sunthy, all of Spring Hill, TN; and Sheila Hale and Ryan of Snyder. She is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren: Nathan and Sofia Winter of Prosper; Avery and Easton Winter of Argyle; Cade and Hunter Hicks of Ely, MN; Landon Hicks and Brayden, Brody and Bella Vongnarath, all of Spring Hill, TN; and Morgan Hale of Snyder.

Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16, at Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, at the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Neelley Hicks, daughter-in-law, officiating. Interment will be at Hillside Memorial Gardens.
