Ray Gene Atkinson of Weatherford. Texas, passed away June 20, 2023 at the age of 93. Ray was born December 20, 1929 in Woodson, Texas to W.A. (Shorty) and Odessa Atkinson. He married Betty Catherine McCarthy Jan. 5, 1951 in Dallas, Texas. He served the United States Army from March of 1951 to March of 1953. He and Betty moved to Snyder in 1953 where they resided for 65 years. His work included 35 years with Chevron Oil, including the gas plant and SACROC in Snyder. He left his home in 2018 to reside near his children in Weatherford.

Ray loved to square dance with his wife and travel around the country with friends and family in the RV. Ray spent hours tinkering in his shop and he never touched anything he couldn’t fix. He believed that everything from big to small was worth salvaging, thus his love for spray paint. He sprayed everything from plastic butter dishes to coffee cans and furniture.

Ray and his wife Betty were faithful members of the First United Methodist Church in Snyder. He was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather and his love for his family was unsurpassed.

He is survived by one son, Billy Atkinson and wife Carol of Brock, a daughter, Kathy Howell and husband Rick of Brock, 4 grandchildren, Brad Atkinson and wife Chelsea of Amarillo, Carolyn Grimmett and husband Chad of San Angelo, Wes Howell and wife Katy of Falls City, and Kailey King and husband John of Brock. He is also survived by two brothers, L.B. Atkinson and wife Barbara, Wilburn Atkinson and wife Joyce, sister, Donna Rials, and two sisters-in-law Shirley Pribble and Barbara McCarthy.  His survivors also include 11 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 58 year, Betty, and three brothers, James, Kenneth and Frank.

Services for Ray will be held on Saturday, June 24, 2023, at 2 PM at Bell Cypert Seale Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Hillside Memorial Gardens. A visitation will be held at 1 PM at Bell Cypert Seale Funeral Home. Services are under the direction of Bell Cypert Seale Funeral Home.
